This section is being built

Content for hospital transfusion practitioners, transfusion laboratory staff, and clinical teams involved in transfusion governance will be posted here as it is written.

Planned content streams include:

  • Major haemorrhage protocols: activation criteria, component ratios, laboratory interface, and post-event debrief frameworks.
  • Special component requirements: irradiated, CMV-negative, washed, and HEV-screened components: when each is needed and how to request it.
  • Transfusion reactions: acute and delayed reactions: recognition, immediate management, investigation pathway, and the role of the transfusion practitioner in coordinating the response.
  • SHOT reporting & governance: SHOT and SABRE reporting, root cause analysis for transfusion incidents, audit themes, and the link from transfusion governance to wider hospital patient safety work.
